Windham Weaponry R20GVTA4S-7 Govt Rifle SA 223 Rem/5.56 NATO The Windham Weaponry 20″ Government Rifle is semi-automatic and chambered in .223 Remington/5.56 NATO. It features an A2 solid stock with a trapdoor storage compartment, rifle length fiberglass handguard with aluminum heat shield, A2 plastic grip with finger groove/checkering and a M4A4 type flat top upper receiver with detachable carry handle. The 20 inch barrel is chrome-lined with a 1 in 7 right handed twist rate. The rear sight is A4 dual aperture and has elevation and wind adjustments 300-600M. The front sight is an adjustable height square post in an A2 standard base. This rifle comes in a hard plastic gun case with black web sling.

Rifle got a quick clean and ran flawless for 100 round break in. I’ll clean and do a final zeroing in. Its my first AR so cant really compare to another but from all the research Windham is top notch. I have called Windham customer service so I can say they are top notch, as I have read also. Got the triangle hand guards from Brownells, if you do, get the delta ring tool too ! Very satisfied all-round with Windham, and ukrguns for getting it to me. The Windham Weaponry AR-15 is in my opinion one of the best sporting rifles made. The fit and finish is second to none and the chrome moly barrel should last many years with proper cleaning. The 20 inch barrel also makes this a good hunting rifle. I like the iron sights on it, but at some point I might add a scope to it. Overall I am very happy with with this rifle.

I have had this for a few weeks wanted to wait until I shot it to review. ukrguns had this drop shipped from somewhere in Louisiana yet it was still here promptly, ordered on a Monday in my hands on Thursday of the same week. Great service by Bud’s. The rifle is excellent. 3 different brands of 120 rounds (no issues) from 10 to 50 yards (indoor range) all were in the 10 ring except for 2 in the 8 ring which was my fault. I did not have to adjust the sights at all. The fit and finish is outstanding. .223/5.56 out of a 20 inch rifle barrel is a lot of fun and easy to shoot well, as I have a lot more time on my handguns than the 5.56 platform yet still did well. Everyone at the range was impressed by the rifle. Do not hesitate to pick one for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

It took me 19 years to really want a long rifle after EAS. I almost went for the FN but the WW is a better value, IMO. This is as accurate as the Colt I had in the Corps but everything else feels better. Maybe because it’s new and my issue M16 was well worn. The big thing I noticed was the trigger pull. Very smooth and predictable compared to the colt. My only bitch is the mag won’t lock in the first try. Maybe that is a break-in thing. But it is still aggravating at the range with a judgmental RO watching.

First, a little background: I am 45, an infantry veteran, and now a first time gun owner. So why did I choose the Windham Weaponry R20GVTA4S-7 Govt Rifle chambered in 5.56 when the popular choice might have been a decked out carbine or another brand of 20″ rifle? QUALITY, FIT and FINISH, BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK, LIFETIME GUARANTEE. I honestly did more research on the AR platform than I pray you ever consider doing. The tightness of this rifle, the overall quality, far surpasses others I looked at in person: Colt, RRA, M&P, a few others. At this price point YOU CANNOT FIND A BETTER BUILT RIFLE. They case they give you is nice. You also get the shoulder sling. Be sure to get the 5.56 so you can shoot the 5.56 AND 223. The 1 in 7 twist rate runs best with brass cased 162 grain – 180 grain. I LOVE THIS RIFLE!!!!!! I wanted my 1990 Army issued Colt M16A2. This is the same exact weapon I had in the service only without the 3-round burst and with much better fit/finish. Other difference is the Windham has an A4 rear sight and A2 front sight. It’s a non-issue. Some may say this weapon looks “PLAIN”….I say it’s beauty is in it’s simplicity. No rails, no optics, just straight quality and beauty. There is a 20 minute youtube video that tours the Windham Weaponry manufacturing facility – I highly recommend watching it for your own piece of mind. To most Windham Weaponry is a newcomer in the AR world, but those that know better, know that the quality in the real Bushmaster rifles are built into these new WW rifles. We are talking the real deal, B in the A-B-C’s of AR15’s, and not at all the crap Remington builds and calls Bushmaster. The same people that built the high quality Bushmaster rifles back in the day, are the same ones building the Windham guns. This gun is as high quality as they come. Excellent chrome line barrels, proper rifling, proper bolts, proper carriers… Every thing on this rifle is as milspec as one can get in the civilian world. The gun is tight and should prove to be a good shooter. I own a fully match conditioned A2 Bushmaster that was built by the very same gunsmith that works at WW’s today. I have no doubt at all about this rifle. She’s good to go.

Just got got back from the range a couple weeks after I received my WW 20″. This thing is dead on out of the box at 25 yards with it’s stock iron sights. 1/2″ grouping at 25 yards out of the box with plain irons is fantastic. This weapon is fantastic, recoil minimal. I used .223 55gr reloads with a couple exclusively added Colt 20rd magazines to complete the classic retro M16 look. No FTF or FTE out of the box either., even with reloaded ammo, all in all a smooth range session with this rifle. A very retro looking rifle, fun to shoot, a definite keeper. This Windham Weaponry 20″ government rifle is my new “always by my side weapon” for home defense now. Get yours today before they sell out. I wanted the rifle I had in the Army back in ’86. This is the closest I could find. I had done many hours of research and review reading. I finally made my decision and pulled the trigger (pun intended) on the purchase of this rifle. Two separate trips to my local range, (43 yard rifle lanes), find me VERY HAPPY with this purchase. The fit and finish of this rifle are perfect. This is pure quality and attention to detail. There is no other rifle in this price range that can compare. I made one click right at the rear ap sight and was dialed in to 4″ groups at 130′ with Hornady 55 gr .223. My eyesight isn’t what it used to be after having cataracts removed from both eyes. I’m sure this rifle is capable of better grouping with a better shooter. Good news… removeable handle is on Pic rail, so optics are an option. Comes with hard case, sling, and one mag. Overall, I would recommend this rifle to ANYONE that asked. As usual, ukrguns was perfect

I was impressed with the quality of this firearm. Expert craftsmanship went into making and assembling this weapon. The mating of the upper and lower parts was the best that I have ever seen. I did quite a bit of research before purchasing this particular weapon and when I looked it over, took it apart and cleaned it, I was thoroughly pleased with my decision to buy from Windham Weaponry. I like the improvements that I see over the M16 that I carried in the Marine Corp. I would recommend a weapon from Windham over Smith & Wesson or Colt after looking and handling this particular one. Received the gun 6 days later, probably due to Thanksgiving so that makes sense. Other than that, the rifle came in pristine condition, no exterior damage, great machining, and came with a lot of factory grease to prevent rust and corrosion. Another thing that I noticed, is there’s some brass that was on the deflector, it didn’t matter because it came right off with my finger, but is good to know that they test fire their rifles prior to sending them out. I haven’t shot the rifle yet, but everything looks to be of high quality, can’t believe the takedown pin came off easily without needing to use a punch. 10/10 for me. First purchase from ukrguns, they’re great too.

Excellent rifle. I appreciate that it is lighter that similar rifles from other manufacturers, and it is good looking and balanced in the hand. Took it out last weekend and put several hundred rounds through it, and it worked perfectly. The long, rifle-length sight radius meant I could hit bull’s eyes with better consistency than with my carbine. Build quality is excellent as well, and it has all the features I wanted, especially 1:7 twist.

I bought this to round out my collection of USMC m16 clones.While Windham never produced a4’s for a government contract, I figured I’d get this as one can only have a semi auto version anyway. Fit and finish are excellent, and the trigger was about as good as a mil-spec can be. (Still kinda awful) I took it to the range to zero, and to my pleasant suprise, it was dead on at 100 yds with the sights flush and centered. One has to have shot the overgassed 16 inch carbines that everyone loves these days to truly appreciate the full size rifle recoil impulse. I really hope the full size Ar’s make a comeback, as I think they serve civilians a bit better than the short ones. They wear much less on the internal parts,and push the cheap and plentiful m193 ammo to potent velocities, negating the need for overpriced boutique ammo. As far as being too long for CQB, the Marines used this gun for 10 years and seemed to manage, and trying to clear a building solo with an armed adversary is virtual suicide anyway. Enough rambling, bottom line is this is a great rifle!

Windham makes an amazing rifle. Got it home, cleaned the packing grease off the innards and oiled it. Took it to the range and put 300 rounds through it of PPU 55grn. Zero failures or jams of any kind. Furthermore I was able to produce 2 and 3 shot groups at 75m of 1.25″ with the irons(can’t wait till my Leupold arrives.) Quality is superb. I had the chance to inspect about 5 different AR’s at the local gun store from various manufacturers. Colt, Ruger, FN, Bushmaster, ect. I could have afforded any but I chose Windham because the fit between upper and lower receiver was perfect, the action had the least resistance and was super smooth. No regrets. Ask yourself what you are missing out on by choosing Windham over Colt and the answer is simply markings on the rifle to signify different manufacturers.

ukrguns was great as always now on to the rifle. Quality and I mean quality guys. This Windham Weaponry 20-inch Government model rifle is in my opinion one of the best. Something I noticed was how perfectly the handguard fit together there was no Delta ring tool needed to disassemble the handguards. The gas key was steaked correctly. I like the fact that it came standard with a mil-spec M16 bolt. To be honest the whole rifle seems as though it was put together by somebody who actually cared. I don’t want to gush here guys but I am blown away by the quality of Windham Weaponry rifles. I waited over a year before writing this review I just wanted to make sure I had enough rounds through the rifle and enough input to give you guys. To answer your question yes it eats everything and I do mean everything as far as ammo is concerned. No problem of this rifle whatsoever and I forgot to mention I love the fact that comes with a hard case and a very nice military grade sling and a black Teflon coated usgi magazine. Not to mention it comes with a full lifetime warranty that is transferable to anyone you sell or give the rifle to. Bottom line there is a lot of AR’s there on the market a lot but I feel Windham Weaponry stands Out from the companies. So show the 20-inch some love and get one I am very satisfied with mine

I received my windham weaponry Govt rifle today. As always it was in excellent condition shipped from ukrguns . I took it out and shot five rounds at 100 yds. the weather here is awful, but had to shoot it. It grouped about 6 inches right out of the box without a good rest. Very nice quality. except for the butt stock has a weird texture that i dont quite like. it is Styrofoam packed and has a hide away door which may come in handy some day. Who doesnt like a government model AR i mean come on it is fantastic. mill spec rifling and parts this gun is a dream for this price. i have a colt le 6720 and the trigger on the windham is better. the feel and function just feels better and i know better than a colt for less. these guys are the old bushmaster arms. they know what they are doing. you will not find a better rifle for less. this is what you want.

I bought my first AR platform rifle when i was 18 and it was a Bushmaster XM15 MOE. It’s a good solid rifle, nice modular furniture, with a pretty bad trigger. But since then i have had my eye on a government style 20″ AR. And after doing some research i decided on the Windham, and i’m glad i did. If you dont know the story behind Windham Weaponary do some research its interesting even just out of curiosity. But i got this rifle in and was amazed on the quality. It comes with one steel 30 round magazine stamped with their name. The finish is great, slightly darker then my Bushmaster, but it looks elegant while maintaining durability. Very accurate and my sights were almost spot on at 50 yards just slightly low. The trigger is better than my Bushmaster but still on the heavy side. I plan on keeping it the way it came from the factory and using this for practice on general marksmanship. This is a quality AR for a good price, even my FFL was shocked what i paid for such a nice rifle.

I love this rifle. It is the classic AR15 that reminds me of the M16 I used when I was in the Air Force. The rifle is well sited from the factory and I have had no issues with it. Having fired over 2000 rounds and not a single jam or mis-fire. I would recommend this for anyone looking for an easy to use AR15.
